Game 1 day 6- Versus Denmark
Today started off early. We had the first game of the day at 8 am. We got up really early to be at the pool before it opened for our dryland warm up.
Even with the warm up, we came out slow, but Denmark came out fast. Denmark scored their first goal within the first minute and a half. We still maintained our strong defense and the first half ended with Denmark up 4-0.
In the second half, it took about 5 minutes for them to score again. Then they scored about 3 minutes later, but did not score again the remaining 8 minutes. In this second half, we team had better passes and more coordinated attacks. We had fewer jumbles and better forechecking in this game.. We finally started to feel like a team this game. We seemed to get more into a better rhythm as the game went on. In the US, we rarely get to play together on the same team. There are not very many tournaments where we have the opportunity to play together. Today we fixed us playing together and not just playing by ourselves. The final score was 6-0.
You can watch the game here.
Game 2 of day 6 versus Great Britain
After the game against Denmark, we went back to the hotel to rest and eat before our final game at 7 pm. Our game ended up starting late because the game before ours went into sudden death and a penalty shoot out. It was very exciting, but also forced us to sit around a lot before our game started after we warmed up.
This game started off a little bit different speed than many of the others we have played. We won the sprints for the ball and we had a bit more space to move the ball and pass it around. We scored the first point within the first minute and a half.
Great Britain is a new team, and this is their first world championships. We decided to work on some of our skills this game, while still keeping the speed up to prepare us for our final game.
Here most of the list of the ladies who scored in order:
2- Mary Luz
4- Mary Luz
5- Katrina (stole the basket)
5.5- Diana scored from the perspective of the camera and commentators, but not called by the referees
6- Andrea P.
12- Luisa on a penalty!
Half Time (unfortunately the rest of the game disappeared while I was trying to write this)
